Easter Events

The following community events have been scheduled for Easter in Rockbridge:

• Buena Vista Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Kite Flying Contest will be held at 1 p.m. at the Double Decker Pavilion at Glen Maury Park on Saturday, April 23.

• The Glasgow Communty invites you to an Easter Egg Hunt at the Glasgow Park on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m.

• An Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled on Saturday, April 23 in Vesuvius.

• The Freedom Center Church will sponsor a community Easter Egg hunt on Saturday April 23rd at 11:00 AM. Thousands of eggs with prizes and lunch served. This event is being held at the Freedom Center on RT 60 just past Stop in in the old Keydet General building. There will also be a Relay for life benefit concert on Saturday April 16th @6:00 pm. Performers are GodSent and Gail Slayton. Come check out the newly renovated facilities. Refreshments will be sold as a fundraiser to help support the teams. • Greenville United Methodist Church will present an Easter Musical on Saturday, April 23 at 7:00 PM. The church choir and actors will recreate the Easter story in words and song. Everyone is invited.

• Douthat State Park is offering Easter Activities on Saturday, April 23, 2011 starting at 2 p.m. at the Discovery Center. For the first time at Douthat State Park enjoy the “Little Critters Traveling Petting Zoo.” Animals you will find at the petting zoo include: alpacas, sheep, miniature donkeys, miniature horses, pygmy goats, potbelly pigs, chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs.

Bring your children to Douthat State Park for games, interpretive programs to learn about rabbits, face painting, and make an Easter basket from recycled materials all for free. Take your picture with the Easter Bunny and purchase a copy for $5. Make your own picture frame to go along with your picture for free. The Easter Egg Hunt kicks off at 5 p.m. with 2,000 eggs hidden. Stick around to have dinner with the Easter Bunny after the hunt for $5 a plate. Douthat is located at 14239 Douthat State Park Road, Millboro, Va. 24460.

• On Sunday, April 24 the Buena Vista Ministerial Alliance will sponsor its annual Community Easter Sunrise Service. It will be held at 7:00 a.m. in Glen Maury Park at the double-decker pavilion. The brief half-hour service will include singing, scripture reading and a short devotional message. Bringing the devotional will be the Rev. David Bain, Pastor Emeritus of Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church.

• New Monmouth will hold Sunrise Service on the hill near Hotinger's Farm at 7 a.m.

• The Pentecostal Outreach Church is celebrating the Easter weekend by starting off this Friday, April 22nd with Good Friday Service at 7:00 p.m. Evangelist Jonathan "Mark" King from Staunton will be the guest speaker for the evening. Also, the praise and worship team from Celebration Church of God in Waynesboro will perform with live music. Communion will be served to those who desire to participate.

On Saturday, the church will have its annual Easter party for youth of all ages between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Crafts, food, games, egg hunt, and several other activities will be available for the children. Easter Sunday morning, Sunday School will begin at 10:00 a.m. for all age groups. The pastor of the church, Larry Clark, will be speaking during the 11:00 a.m. and the 7:00 p.m. services on Easter Sunday. The church is located at 258 East 41 Street in Buena Vista.
