Fast Break BP in Clifton Forge Robbed Monday

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office received a call into the 911 Communications Center on Monday night, October 29th at 11:29pm and the caller stated that she had just been robbed at knifepoint. The incident occurred at the Fast Break BP Station and Convenience Store in Cliftondale Park, just east of Clifton Forge at Exit 27off I-64.

Deputies from the Alleghany Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and secured the area pending the arrival of investigators with the Sheriff’s Office. Additional deputies were brought in to patrol the area as well. The Clifton Forge town police also assisted with patrol.

According to Sheriff Dale Muterspaugh, the clerk remained calm and collected and was able to give a very accurate description of the suspect as well as the suspect’s vehicle. Information about the incident was given out to other local law enforcement agencies. Store surveillance equipment also assisted authorities in determining the identity of the suspect, who acted alone.

The suspect was arrested without incident at his place of residence at 1:07am this morning. He is identified as Ernest Lee Wright, Jr., age 22 of Nicholas Drive, Lot B-6, Clifton Forge. The knife used in the commission of the crime was recovered.

The store clerk told authorities that the suspect was wearing a mask when she encountered him, at which time he produced a knife, threatened her with it, and instructed her to open the register. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from the register. The suspect then grabbed the money that was there and fled. The store clerk followed and was able to describe the vehicle the suspect left the scene in.

Wright is charged with armed robbery and wearing a stocking or mask in a public place in the commission of a crime. He remains in custody at the Alleghany Regional Jail pending an arraignment in Alleghany General District Court.
